Job Summary

 

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is searching for an experienced Vice President, Global Communications to lead the global media relations strategy and franchise & owner communications. This position is based in our Corporate Headquarters in Parsippany, NJ.  The ideal candidate will bring a global company perspective, strong media relations background and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to the role. He/she will be a change agent within the communications department and responsible for developing and leading the external communications function including the global media relations and franchise/owner communications for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio of brands.  He/she will be responsible for developing the communications strategy for both audiences that drive awareness and engagement as well as strengthen the company’s profile while promoting Wyndham’s signature brands, leadership and revenue generating offerings. This progressive communications executive will implement innovative and creative public relations strategies that garner global headlines and support the company’s mission and business vision.

 

An integral part of the Marketing Communications team, this role requires that the individual be adept at navigating a complex global corporate structure across multiple countries and cultures. The role offers daily exposure and interaction with the highest levels of the organization, with a moderate to high level of decision making autonomy.  The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker and outstanding relationship builder, collaborator and influencer with exceptional written and communication skills.  This position will oversee a team of directors, senior managers and managers who will be responsible for the day-to-day public relations and franchise communications strategy for the company’s global brand portfolio.

 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Develop a best-in-class public relations team that will engage key stakeholders, drive an emotional brand connection among consumers and positively impact the company’s public profile through strategic media relations.
  • Increase franchisee value proposition by developing a best-in-class franchise and owner communications function that leverages innovative products and services to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of message delivery.
  • Develop a global public relations strategy that tells the Wyndham story across multiple platforms – business, consumer, B2B and more. 
  • Deliver outstanding results across every external communications touch point.
  • Build process, structure and discipline around the public relations and franchise communications functions including new standards and processes.
  • Partner closely with leadership to create the company’s brand narrative and voice that will be the benchmark for all external messaging.
  • Creative storytelling – apply innovative lens to how we tell the Wyndham story across all external audiences.
  • Support company growth, marketing, sales and development strategy with targeted media relations efforts.
  • Relationship management (internal and external), agency management, campaign development and execution, media research and response.
  • Executive counseling and coaching, media material development, story creation and placement and crisis communications.
  • Work closely and align with communications leaders across the company.
  • Provide speech and presentation support to senior leadership team for annual franchisee conferences and other franchisee meetings (board, regional, etc.).

 

Education & Experience

 

Experience/Certificates/Education

 

  • BA/BS in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations
  • 15+ years Communications or Public Relations experience
  • Progressive and successful communications experience managing a communications function/department in a large, matrixed global company or agency; Franchise organization or Consumer brand/hotel/travel experience preferred
  • Track record of developing and managing external communications strategy during a period of transformational change where public relations is important to overall company success
  • Prove results through a forward-thinking approach utilizing a full range of communication platforms including social media/digital
  • Creative thinking for different communication platforms
  • Strong ability to interact with executive level management
  • Experience and comfortability working with senior and executive level leadership
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously and adapt to changes in business priorities with complex and fluid timelines and multiple stakeholders
  • Detail oriented, excellent organization and time management skills
  • Collaborative and a self-starter
  • Ability to handle high pressure/deadline oriented environment
  • Experience managing managers and leading effective teams
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to present in front of a group
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to utilize the Associated Press writing style
  • Proficiency in social media channels
  • Photoshop/graphic design experience a plus
