The HR Director is responsible for the hotel’s HR performance and all ongoing practices in relation to the HR function. She/he will combine strategic thought and planning with the ability to maintain accurate accounts and reports, and real time data which will enhance the people performance of the hotel.


He/she will be responsible for leading the HR department within all HR disciplines across the employee Lifecyle (I.e., Sourcing, Recruitment, Welcome experience, Employee relations, Compensation and Benefits, Talent Management, Learning & Development, Team member Engagement, Health & Wellbeing).

General Duties

  • Responsible for putting together and implementing the HR strategy and plan for each year (People Plan)
  • Responsible for the HR and payroll budget on conjunction with the Director of Finance
  • Provide monthly people metrics and analyses (HR BSC) to continuously drive results
  • Compliance with company HR standards according with the HR Success Review
  • Maintaining a business environment based on the company values and Count On me service culture
  • Acting as a Wyndham and Dolce Ambassador

Recruitment & Welcome

  • Managing the recruitment and onboarding process in conjunction with the People Managers to ensure that all relevant team member has been trained and onboarded / set up for success to manage new-starter retention and engagement
  • Ensure that all People Managers / Hiring Managers are trained and follows the recruitment and welcome standards as outlines in the WHR people guidelines and policies.
  • Ensure that the recruitment process and all relevant stakeholders are involved as per the WHR recruitment policies and procedure
  • Ensure that the employment contracts templates are pre-approved by relevant stakeholders
  • Ensures that all open jobs are posted via the company recruitment systems and the SOP’s and Wyndham standards are followed

Team Member Engagement

  • Ensure that the hotel is participating in the team member engagement survey and that all departmental engagement plans are relevant and kept up to date
  • Ensure that there is an active WeCom (Hotel Team Member Committee – different to work council) in the hotel with clear guidelines and goals on team member engagement, community and sustainability activities
  • Actively drive the hotels Health and Wellbeing efforts according to team member needs and in conjunction with the management team

Employee Relations

  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with the hotel work council and union
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and strong leadership through negotiation processes
  • Update people policies and processes to ensure alignment with the CLA and WHR guidelines.
  • Ensure all kinds of employee relations i.e., disciplinary, performance management and grievance process, are managed with high degree of integrity, fairness and consistency with hotel policies and the CLA. Take an active role as an arbitrator, note taker or advisor where appropriate.
  • Maintain and enhance the open-door policy to all Team members providing advice and guidance when needed in regard to their issues or concerns and/or grievances with the ultimate goal to support and upskill people managers to deal with employee relations
  • Advice and support the management team on people matters
  • Train the HR Executive/HR Coordinator etc. in the above process to be able to take a lead on recruitment, onboarding, WeCom, training compliance, engagement and HR BSC.
  • Update the General Manager of all employee relations matters
  • Update the Regional HR BP of all employee related matters that are deemed to carry a medium-high legal risk

Talent Management

  • Ensure 100% compliance of performance review completion in a timely manner according to company policy and process, using relevant forms / compliance with the guidelines of CPM (Continuous performance management).
  • In conjunction with the senior team, ensure that all relevant team members have active business and personal goals that are regularly reviewed through the CPM process
  • Ensure relevant team members have a live personal development plan or personal improvement plan which is monitored with regular 1:1s / CPM process.
  • Talent Reviews are alive and active
  • Succession plan is kept updated
  • Ensure leaders are actively managing their team members according to their talent profile / rating

Compensation and Benefits

  • Managing the hotel payroll in conjunction with the Director of Finance
  • Payroll budgeting
  • Regularly review market salary and benefits data
  • Continuously look for benefits that meet the needs and wants of the team
  • Managing the annual increases – statutory and merit
  • Merit-based Pay increase master spreadsheet is constructed to be reviewed by the GM /DoF/FC as per the EMEA policy


  • Ensure effective launch and buy-in of Mapal / Flow – a online learning, development and performance management platform (Support HR Executive to take a lead on this)
  • Ensure the annual training plan is designed according to business and departmental needs
  • Ensure all WHR trainings take place as per guidelines (i.e., Induction, COM)
  • Ensure the departmental training programmes are kept live in accordance with WHR guidelines
  • Ensure 100% compliant with all mandatory training requirements
  • Review the monthly training calendar with operational leaders
  • Managing the Training budget

Background and skills

  • A recognized Human Resources, business or hospitality management qualification
  • CIPD certification / HR practitioner certification is an advantage
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a HR Manager / Assistant HR Director in a hotel
  • Hotel branded experience is a strong advantage
  • Four / Five star internationally managed hotel experience is desired
  • Experienced / certified trainer
  • Experienced people manager
  • High level of numeracy and literacy
  • Track record of driving results
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is essential. Fluency in Catalan is a strong advantage.
  • Exceptional coaching experience is vital
