La Quinta by Wyndham is now seeking a Sales Manager - LQ to join our team at the La Quinta by Wyndham Minneapolis - Bloomington West location in BloomingtonMinnesota.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing support to the Director of Sales for sales and market fulfillment activities; serve as the onsite contact for all questions related to the sale of banquet function services.

Education & Experience


  • College degree preferred, High School Diploma or GED required.



  • One year of sales experience.
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to do light lifting or carrying.
  • Capable of working in a fast paced environment and in stressful situations.
  • Must respond to multiple task interruptions and still provide service to internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • May be required to walk, stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment, including a 10 key adding machine, PC computers, fax machine and photo copier.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be available to varied schedules including nights and weekends.
General Requirements
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have good analytical skills and decision-making ability.
  • Must be able to work independently and multi-task, prioritizing as appropriate.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Requires working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn property management system.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives and reassign and reassign priorities.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills.
  • Must be available to varied schedules including nights and weekends.
  • Obtain any locally required certifications.
Fundamental Requirements
  • Communicate daily with department heads to review upcoming functions and ensure distribution of upcoming Banquet Event Order sheets to appropriate department heads.
  • Update function book on a daily basis. This includes updating all files relating to business events.
  • Inspect all set ups prior to start of function to ensure compliance with required specifications.
  • Greet customer/contact person prior to the start of each function and maintains contact throughout the function to ensure that all arrangements are satisfactory.
  • Assist the Director of Sales to identify new business through internal and external sources, including travel agents, travel-related groups and industry publications to increase revenue enhancement.
  • Assist in the planning and development of effective sales strategies.
  • Assist to develop promotional ideas to increase sales.
  • Book banquet food and beverage for business events. This includes selling of snacks, lunch, or dinner through caterers.
  • Correspond with customer confirming booking(s). This includes typing of contract and Event Orders.
  • Assist clients by offering suggestions regarding banquet area set-up, menus, decorations, etc.  Assist in obtaining special equipment or supplies.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory needed for banquet events.
  • Perform follow up and sends thank you letters for all completed banquet functions and solicits for future business.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures (i.e., verify banquet contracts, methods of payment, deposits, guarantees, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management, such as helping with the setup and cleanup after a function.
