Job Summary

This position is responsible for serving food and beverages to the customers in a timely, courteous, efficient and accurate manner. Must follow the standards set by the hotel. Explains menu item and terms and provides suggestions to customers when asked.   

Education & Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to routinely lift or carry up to 10-25 pounds and occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, carrying, and walking.
  • Climbs stairs 20% of the time.
  • Requires good vision to include: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Requires good hearing.
  • Must have clean/healthy work habits
  • Requires a well-groomed, professional appearance.
  • Must be flexible in hours/days.

General Requirements

  • If serving alcoholic beverages must meet the state’s minimum age requirement.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills; able to clearly present information through the spoken or written word; and be a good listener.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff and customers.
  • Service orientation, organization, and time management skills.
  • Hands on experience with cash register and ordering information system.
  •  Obtain any locally required certifications.

Fundamental Requirements

  • Escort customers to their tables.
  • Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request.
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.
  • Inform customers of daily specials.
  • Take order from patrons for food and beverages.
  • Check patrons' identification in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  • Serve food and/or beverages to patrons; prepare and serve specialty dishes at tables as required. Handle all foods items in accordance with local health codes.
  • Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning.
  • Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens.
  • Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers.
  • Assist in Room Service (if necessary) and with orders to go, as needed.
  • Perform other job related activities as required or requested by the Food & Beverage Manager.
