Job Summary

The Director of Rooms is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of Guest Services, Repair & Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Laundry in an attentive, friendly, efficient and courteous manner, providing all guests with quality service while maximizing room revenue and productivity, and developing managers and employees.

Education & Experience

•    At least 6 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and 4 or more years of related experience.
•    Previous management experience required.
•    Must be proficient in Windows, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing.
 

Physical Requirements

•    Long hours sometimes required.
•    Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

•    Perform other duties as requested by management.
•    Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
 

Fundamental Requirements

•    Prepares and administers the annual revenue and operating budgets for departments within purview including capital budget and projects. 
•    Reviews monthly profit and loss statement.  Manages monthly revenues, payroll, and expenses.  Prepares critique and action plans for improvement as necessary.
•    Properly forecasts revenues and expenses on a monthly and quarterly basis.
•    Performs human resource functions for staffing, including scheduling, evaluating, and training. Actively support Human Resources with recruiting efforts. Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline all Rooms Division personnel according to hotel standards.
•    Performs performance reviews according to SOP, and ensure that managers are in compliance with the standards in their administration of performance reviews to their employees.
•    Maintains a professional working relationship and promotes open lines of communication with managers, employees and other departments.
•    Tours rooms operating departments daily, greeting employees and soliciting feedback.
•    Conducts walk-throughs of building and grounds to ensure that cleanliness and maintenance standards are met.
•    Coordinates major projects such as renovations, capital expenditures, equipment change-overs, etc.
•    Sets standards of services, presentation, sanitation, and preventative maintenance program.  Ensures that standards are met or exceeded.
•    Oversees ongoing and emergency repairs required to keep the hotel facilities in a marketable condition at all times.
•    Coordinates the response to all guest requests, problems, complaints and/or accidents arising in person or through reservations, comment cards, letters and/or phone calls, in an attentive, courteous and efficient manner.  Follow up to ensure guest satisfaction.
•    Controls utility consumption
•    Ensures compliance with all codes and regulations.   Maintains hotel’s special permits and licenses as required by local authorities.
•    Develops, maintains, monitors all safety policies, procedures, and programs for the property.  
•    Coordinates with other departments all work necessary to maintain general conditions, safety and health standards & training set form by hotel policies and other legal requirements.
•    Negotiates contracts for property operations.  Manages contractor/vendor work 
•    Monitors all V.I.P.'s, special guests and requests.
•    Participates as Manager on Duty as required.
•    Projects a professional image by ensuring that departments maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance at all times.
•    Attends weekly meetings as required.
