Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is now seeking a Manager, Interior Design to join our team at the Parsippany - 22 Sylvan Way location in ParsippanyNew Jersey.

Job Summary

The Interior Design Manager will assist in the development of design concepts, interior renderings, hotel floor plans and layouts, space planning, design development, and construction documentation for the WH&R hotel brands.

Essential Job Functions

The Interior Design Manager will work in close collaboration with the Brand Leaders, Director of Prototype Design & Development on the development of interior design concepts, space planning, design development, and construction documentation for the WH&R hotel brands.  They will assist in the maintenance of brand standards and provide revisions to FF+E packages for multiple hospitality brands as required to keep the product dynamic and marketable.  They will be responsible for the management and execution of major brand initiatives to include development of new FF&E packages.  One function of the Interior Design Manager is to manage major brand initiatives where they will be responsible and accountable for project costs, deadlines, and cost/quality of the final product.  This affects both the balance sheet for the company as a whole, as well as the cost of our specified packages to our franchisees. The Interior Design Manager will be required to make independent decisions to approve or reject submitted FF&E items based on review against Wyndham performance standards and brand standard requirements.  They will exercise judgement on when to seek advice on these decisions or when brand approval/involvement is required.  
They will be required to offer support to new construction projects as well as conversions and renovations of existing properties.   As an integral member of a flexible team, they will be required to interface with hotel owners, franchisees, and manufacturers.   Because they will be required to interface with hotel owners, franchisees, and manufacturers, these actions and decisions have a great impact on the company’s operations and public perception.

The Interior Design Manager also has the day-to-day responsibility for answering questions and compliance submittals for their assigned brands in the mailbox.  This mailbox is time-sensitive and the review of design submittals within the specified timeframe is crucial for our hotels to be able to stay on schedule for their opening dates.  These reviews also affect some pending deals where FF&E waiver approvals are included in franchise agreements.


  1. Answer interior design mailbox.
  2. Maintain or develop FF&E packages.
  3. Update design documents and create presentation material in programs to include CAD, Photoshop, InDesign and Bluebeam.
  4. Travel to manufacturer’s factories or hotels to review designs.
  5. Travel to tradeshows.

Travel Requirements

As part of the Wyndham Design team, the Part-time Design Manager will participate in several tradeshows, the Wyndham Global Conference, and visit hotels and manufacturers (approximately 15%). 


  • Develop and maintain FF+E Specifications in the SPEXX program.
  • Ability to develop space plans, elevations and graphic documentation based on programming interpretations.
  • Research & develop design concepts and FF+E packages for Brands and individual properties.
  • Assist in creating concept presentations in PowerPoint and In Design, including research of imagery.
  • Assist in owner, Brand and Senior Leadership meetings.
  • Manage outsourced design companies ensuring scheduled deliverables are met or create designs in-house and ensure scheduled deliverables are met.
  • Assemble and layout Design Boards, digitally in In Design or Power Point and using physical material samples for presentation to Brand and Senior Leadership.
  • Render drawings using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Coordinate custom furniture designs with manufacturers including spec writing and shop drawing review.
  • Develop space plans for both Guestrooms and Public Areas in AutoCAD.  Handsketching a plus. 
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects in a fun and fast paced environment.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from a FIDER or CIDA accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years work experience in hospitality design with leading hospitality design firm(s).
  • Experienced in working with and knowledgeable of multiple hotel brands’ standards in multiple market tiers.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience preparing concept and schematic presentations.
  • Experience preparing presentation design boards.
  • Experience writing FF+E Specifications.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment answering time sensitive design questions. 
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings and vetting physical furniture samples.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in AutoCAD 2007 (or higher), Revit, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, InDesign, Excel, and SPEXX.
