Job Summary

Wyndham Rewards (“WR”) Fraud Prevention & Detection – 65%
In this interesting and diverse role, the Sr.  Data Analyst, Audit Services Operations will use advanced audit and internal control concepts and techniques to identify risks and implement controls. This role will take ownership and responsibility over the integrity and fraud prevention for the WH&R’s global guest loyalty program, Wyndham Rewards. 

This role will spearhead the fraud prevention, fraud detection, revenue optimization, issue response, financial integrity and risk identification related to Wyndham Rewards. This role will analyze data to identify key anomalies and trends and be responsible for both detecting fraud once it occurs and preventing it from occurring at all. When anomalies are detected, the Sr. Data Analyst will lead the charge to investigate the findings and work with the Loyalty, technology, cyber and legal departments to develop and implement preventive and detective controls. Those controls could be in the form of a data centric dashboard for monitoring anomalies, working with the team to update the terms and conditions for the program, or even interacting with the loyalty technology team to implement automated rules. The senior analyst should be able to come up with multiple solutions for detected anomalies while understanding the potential limitations within the organization.

The Sr. Data Analyst will work extremely closely with the loyalty team and be involved in the beginning to the end of the rollout of new initiatives. This position will be involved in operational projects and identify key risk or loopholes during the planning and integration phases, so future problems can be mitigated down the road. The senior analyst must be comfortable identifying these risks to senior leadership.  The rewards team will involve this position in their routine IT planning roadmap meetings and project integration plans. It’s crucial this person understands the operations of all WR processes and speaks up during meetings to voice potential concerns as well as escalate to Audit management. 

 

Data Analytics and Continuous Enterprise Monitoring: - 25%
Assist Audit Services’ Data Scientist in continuous monitoring support and execution utilizing pre-written Python code. Work with cross-functional teams including Finance and Management to identify and quantify risk, as well as to evaluate controls at scale. Analyze business, infrastructure, and financial data for variety of patterns including fraud, brand risk, control breakdown and regulatory non-compliance. Convey findings from your analysis to varied stakeholders.

 

Audit Services “AS” Support – 10%
The position will support the research needed during enterprise-wide investigations through use of data analytics and will occasionally be called on to support the rest of the Audit Services team. This could include operations audit testing/sampling and process improvement initiatives.

In this role you will be working directly with Senior Leadership and various departments throughout the organization as well as third-party partnerships.  We are looking for someone that can take an existing or potential problem and triage it to the right teams, to not only solve the issue, but make sure it doesn’t reoccur. All the while anticipating how a change could affect other parts of the business and keeping a customer centric mindset. Project management, data execution, organization, and communication would be the top 4 skills needed to be successful in this role. The senior analyst should be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once understanding what needs to be prioritized with guidance from their manager.  Candidate must have a passion for helping the business reduce its risk exposure and a passion for solving problems.  Any audit or coding experience in Python is a plus! However, this person must have a career goal and passion for learning and growing with Data.

 

Reporting Structure
The role will sit within the Audit Services operations department and report directly to the Manager of Audit Services and have a dotted line to the Audit Services, Data Scientist. The role will partner closely with the Wyndham Rewards team and have a responsibility to virtually manage the workload of the Program Integrity team, located within the Member Services call center in St. John, Canada.
 

Responsibilities

WR: Gather insight through data and business rules to ensure the integrity of the Wyndham Rewards program.  
•    Use problem solving and critical thinking skills to quickly identify areas of risk where potential fraud could exist, evaluate the level of risk and impact implications, and draw the appropriate conclusions.  
•    Partner with the business by proactively design and implement solutions and/or controls to mitigate risks of fraud. This includes reviewing ongoing changes to the Wyndham Rewards program and partnership integrations.
•    Understand and identify how risks within the organization can affect our Rewards program prior to a breech.
•    Communicate any fraud risk to peers and management through management reports, emails, presentations or calls.
•    Create or update process narrative, flow-charts, and risk control matrix to reflect processes in place.
•    Be comfortable speaking and communicating to management and senior leadership with little oversight from manager.

AS: Assist the Audit Data Science department with running pre-existing Python code to execute continuous monitoring reports. Coordinate with the business to collect feedback to enhance the report by decreasing false positives. Additionally, use a risk and control perspective to recommend areas of concentration for continuous monitoring.         
WR: Manage the workload of the Program Integrity team, located in Saint John, Canada:
•    Work with the team to action timely on report findings 
•    Answer escalated customer fraud related questions and track open cases
•    Analyze results from reports to enhance the automated fraud findings while decreasing false positives. 
•    Track, summarize, and report on findings to Senior Leadership

WR: Use technical skills to gather requisite data (other coding languages). Analyze program transactional data, business rules and technical enhancement specifications to identify unusual patterns and trends that could potentially be fraudulent activity. This also includes reviewing data dashboards daily, actioning on any anomalies found and creating new dashboards for events to be monitored going forward.
AS: Assist in the creation and management of case files for enterprise wide investigations identified through management or the organization’s incident reporting hotline. Assist management with data analysis and develop a plan for remediating the issue and communicating with stakeholders, as well as developing potential controls or monitoring tactics to mitigate the issue going forward.

AS: Assist other Audit Services functional areas in achieving objectives. This could vary but would often include sample testing to support operational audits.  

Expected Travel:  Potential travel could be up to 3 weeks per year.  
 

Qualifications

•    3-5 years of experience with leading and delivering projects
•    Self-directed, comfortable working independently, and without daily supervision
•    Highly organized, detail oriented 
•    Strong problem-solving capabilities, with an interest in innovative and creative thinking
•    Basic understanding of audit methodologies and approaches
•    Ability to multi-task and follow through and drive projects to completion 
•    Ability to productively manage and work within a virtual team
•    Interest in working on strategic initiatives in a collaborative environment with the ability to effectively influence in a highly dynamic environment 
•    Comfort in communicating results to management
•    Strong English communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to communicate at various levels within the company. 
•    Open to learn new technologies and adapt to new processes
•    Strong data skillset in industry graded analytical tools such as Excel 
•    Ability to code and execute; Python is preferred

 

Experience/Certificates/Education
•    College Degree (BA, BS) – Accounting, Computer Science, Technology, and/or related field 
•    Technical experience in Microsoft Excel
