The Role
This position is responsible for overseeing the preparation, filing and renewal of the company’s franchise disclosure documents (FDDs) in the United States and Canada as well as providing ancillary legal advice in the areas of franchised hotel development and relicensing, including franchise sales, transfers and renewals, commercial contracts, and general business counseling. This person will also counsel the company’s brand operations and revenue generation teams on the legal risks associated with new initiatives and incorporate such initiatives into the company’s FDDs as needed; ensure compliance with laws and advise management on recent changes in laws and regulations that affect the company.
The position will support the Franchise Services legal team through regular interactions with other legal and cross-functional teams (including finance, marketing, IT, tax, risk management) and outside counsel.
What you'll do
- Oversees the drafting, preparation, and filing of all company FDDs in the United States and Canada.
- Provides legal advice to revenue generation teams with respect to new initiatives; drafts and updates all related agreements.
- Provides general counseling to various departments on applicable franchising regulations and avoidance of risk in franchise operations and sales.
- Reviews training materials, job aids, and other franchisee-facing learning materials.
- Reviews and negotiates special provisions in franchise agreements and all related ancillary agreements.
You'll be successful if you have
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to think independently and make sound decisions without long contemplation or research.
- Strong analytical and drafting skills, with experience drafting regulatory filings and transactional documents required.
- Ability to promptly and effectively respond to questions and concerns from senior management, clients, and customers and explain complex transactional issues in plain English.
- Ability to define problems, collect relevant information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and exercise sound discretion and judgment in making decisions and performing duties.
- Self-starter; ability to multi-task and handle large volumes of work.
- Demonstrated ability to influence individuals outside direct reporting relationships.
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Law degree.
- Admission to NJ or NY Bar (or eligibility to obtain in-house limited license in NJ).
- A minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in a top tier law firm environment or in-house legal department.
- Strong transactional and counseling foundation.
- Experience supervising attorneys and other legal professionals.
- Experience in commercial contracts and business counseling.
- Franchise experience required.
- Hospitality industry experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
For U.S. based positions only, the expected pay range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000 annually.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts carefully considers a wide range of factors when determining compensation such as work location, background, experience, and performance. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
In addition to the base pay, this role is eligible to receive an incentive payment pursuant to the Annual Incentive Plan with a 30% annual target, subject to the terms of the Plan. In addition, this role is eligible to participate in the Long-Term Incentive Plan.
